Walking around Rome is like visiting a museum; it is very easy to find a piece of history in any corner of the city. How to get to Rome?
The city of Rome has the seaport of Civitavecchia, the Termini train station and two airports, Fiumicino and Ciampino. The most common way to reach the Italian capital is by plane, so you will arrive at one of its two airports.
Fiumicino Airport, also called Leonardo Da Vinci Airport, is the city's main airport and is located 30km from the city center. To get from this airport to your accommodation you can use the Leonardo Express train, the regional train, the bus or the cab service. On the other hand, Ciampino Airport, also called Giovanni Battista Pastine Airport, is located southeast of the city and is mainly used by low-cost airlines. To get from this airport to the center of Rome you can use the regional train, bus or cab service.
Bus:
Fiumicino: There are different bus companies that connect the airport with the center of Rome directly and without stops. Buses depart from Terminal 3 of the airport and the journey time is usually 1 hour. The best known company is Terravision, with a price of 6 euros each way, which offers the opportunity to buy the ticket online. There are also other bus companies that offer this service, such as Schiaffini, SIT Bus Shuttle or T.A.M. Bus.
Ciampino: Most of the bus companies operating at Ciampino Airport arrive at Termini Station without any intermediate stop. These buses can be picked up at the international departures terminal of the airport and the journey time is approximately 40 minutes. As at Fiumicino airport, the most popular company is Terravision, whose service costs 5 euros each way. Tickets can be purchased online. There are also other bus companies from Ciampino to the center of Rome, such as Schiaffini, SIT Bus Shuttle, Atral or ATAC.
Regional Train:
Fiumicino: The Sabina-Fiumicino line (FR1) connects the Leonardo Da Vinci Airport with the Italian city center. This train stops at Tiburtina, Tuscolana, Ostiense and Trastevere stations. Tickets can be purchased at the station or online.
Ciampino: Unlike Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino Airport does not have an internal train station. Therefore, to get by regional train from Ciampino to the center of Rome, it will first be necessary to take a bus from the airport to Ciampino train station. The price of this bus is 1.20 euro each way. Once at the Ciampino train station, the fare to the center of Rome is 1.50 euros each way.Leonardo Express Train: This train connects Fiumicino airport with Rome Termini station. The journey time is 32 minutes and luggage of any size is allowed. In addition, all trains have seats and toilets. The price of the service is 14 euros, although there is also an offer with which you can get four tickets for 40 euros. There is the possibility of buying your tickets online.
Taxi:
Fiumicino: Cabs in Rome are white and the fare from Fiumicino airport to the city center has a fixed price of 48 euros. We recommend you to fix the price with the driver from the beginning to avoid future surprises.
Ciampino: The cab rank is located just outside the terminal. The fixed fare from Ciampino Airport to the center of Rome is 30 euros.

To live in Rome you will need approximately 800 euros per month to cover the cost of accommodation rent and associated expenses. Rome is not a cheap city, so if you want to enjoy a full Erasmus experience, doing activities and having an active social life, it is very likely that your expenses will amount to 1000 euros per month. How to move around Rome?
Although Rome is a city where it is worth walking to the places, surely from time to time you also need to use public transport to move to more distant places or, simply, because of fatigue. When it comes to using public transport in Rome, one of the best tips we can give you is to always go with time, as its strong point is not exactly punctuality.
Metro: Rome has three metro lines, A, B and C. Although it is one of the smallest metro networks in Europe, it reaches all the points of interest in the city. To buy a metro ticket, you can do it at the metro stops themselves, at kiosks and tobacconists and, of course, for long stays in the city it is advisable to buy a pass. The schedule of this means of transport is from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM. In the case of weekends, the metro service extends its schedule until 1:30 in the morning.
Bus: There are more than 350 bus lines in the city of Rome, exactly 338 day lines and 22 night lines. However, Rome's bus has the bad reputation of being a very unpunctual means of transport, although it is gradually being modernised. As with the metro, bus tickets can be purchased at metro stops, kiosks or tobacconists.
Regional train: This is Rome's commuter train and has three lines that go as far as Lido, Viterbo and Giardinetti. As with the previous means, tickets can be purchased at metro stations, kiosks and tobacconists. Its service schedule is a little shorter than that of other transports, from 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM, except for the Lido line, which usually operates later.
Tram: Rome is served by six tram lines. These lines run through less central areas, so it will be a very useful means of transport if your accommodation is in a more remote neighbourhood. The tram schedule is from 5:30 AM to 00:00. As with buses, it will seem that no one pays for their ticket, but you should already know that this is not the case. Remember to validate your ticket if you do not have a monthly pass.
All these means of transport, with the exception of taxis, are managed by the company ATAC.

First of all, you should know that in Rome most places close their doors around 2 in the morning, since Italians usually start their parties at dinner time, which is around 8-9 PM. Until 2 AM it will be very easy to find a great atmosphere on the streets of the city, the bars and the open pubs. Some of the most lively areas of the city are Trastevere, Testaccio and Ostiense.
Trastevere
One of the most famous neighborhoods in Rome and, without a doubt, one of the busiest at night. In Trastevere you can find a variety of bars, pubs and even places with live music and street parties. The best-known meeting point in this neighborhood is Piazza Santa María.
Testaccio
It is the area where most of the city's nightclubs are located, especially on Via di Monte Testaccio. Here you can find a wide variety of nightclubs, one next to the other, without leaving aside the bars and pubs either.
Ostiense
The Ostiense neighborhood stands out for its ristodiscos, which are venues that combine the option of having dinner with continuing to dance later at a great party, all in the same place. The music that usually plays at ristodiscos is electronic or house music. However, if you dig a little deeper, you can also find some places with rock or jazz music.
Where to go shopping in Rome?
If you want to go shopping in Rome, one of the most famous streets to do so and one of the most popular among Romans is Via del Corso. Along this street you can find from stores known to all and with very affordable prices, to the most expensive and exclusive brands. Another street in the same style as Via del Corso, but usually less crowded, is Via Cola di Rienzo.
